As mentioned in my previous post, my birthday was on Thursday. We didn’t get to do much that day to celebrate, so we did today instead. We went to Georgetown Cupcake in Bethesda, MD for a few cupcakes. I chose the Milk Chocolate Birthday Cake. I actually wanted the Double Milk Chocolate Birthday Cake, but forgot to say “double” when I ordered. I also got the Coffee Cookies & Creme, which was free (they give out 100 free cupcakes per day). They announce the flavor on Twitter and all you have to do is order the cupcake by name and it’s free.
Then we stopped at Starbucks in Germantown, MD for a free birthday drink. We’re on a super strict budget, so we love when things are free! :o) I ordered a venti non-fat, no-foam, extra caramel, caramel macchiato. Delicious! Although, I wish I would’ve added an extra shot of espresso.
With my cupcakes and caramel macchiato in hand we drove up to Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, MD. We’ve been once before, but wanted to return to see the fall foliage. I.adore.fall! It was a crisp 50 degrees today and just plain lovely. As we headed up the mountain we stopped to take a few quick pictures. It was too pretty not to.
It was quite busy, but luckily we found a parking spot. As soon as we got out of the car, it was pure bliss. The leaves were rustling in the light breeze making such a soothing sound. If I could capture that sound and bring it home I would. There is nothing quite like it.
We walked a short distance to an empty picnic table and sat down to indulge in our cupcakes and caramel macchiato. We tried the Coffee Cookies & Creme first. There was a light hint of coffee and chocolate cookie crumbs throughout the entire cupcake. The coffee buttercream frosting was to.die.for. Insanely indulgent!
Next up was the Milk Chocolate Birthday cake. There were tiny flecks of vanilla bean throughout the cupcake, and the frosting was rich and chocolaty. Just the way I like it! Both of the cupcakes were moist and light as a feather, and the frosting creamy and smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. They are without a doubt the BEST cupcakes I’ve ever eaten. I’ve never met a Georgetown Cupcake I haven’t absolutely loved.
After finishing up our cupcakes, we sat together atop the picnic table and took in the view. I wish the fall colors were more vibrant, but it was a beautiful sight nonetheless. While sitting there we watched another couple being photographed for what appeared to be engagement pictures…so sweet! Today was my ideal fall day, and the perfect way to celebrate my birthday. I like to keep things simple. What can I say!?
Just close your eyes and imagine yourself taking in this view. It doesn’t get much better! Regardless of all the people around, it was like we were in our own little world. It seemed like most people were there for the hiking trails, but we aren’t very outdoors-y people, so we just stayed near the outlook.
Take a look at this beautiful street view of Sugarloaf Mountain. There weren’t any cars behind us, so I quickly took this picture through our sunroof. Love that it captures some fall colors. Just what I was hoping for.
I hope you’re having a lovely weekend. Mine can’t get much better!
